Italian Coast Guard in Crotone fines 21 boaters, seizes 82 kg untraced fish
The Coast Guard of Crotone stepped up maritime patrols along the coast between Crucoli and Sellia Marina over the recent weekend. Inspectors checked 55 pleasure vessels and 27 jet skis, issuing 21 administrative violations for breaches such as entering swimming zones, ignoring time‑restricted navigation windows and failing to show required documentation. The fines total more than €6,000.
In a related summer‑season food‑safety sweep, the same authority inspected restaurants in Crotone and Isola Capo Rizzuto. Six establishments were found unable to provide traceability documents for their fish supplies, leading to the seizure of 82 kg of fresh and frozen fish and administrative penalties of €2,000 per venue, amounting to €12,000. The confiscated fish will be destroyed, and the fines aim to protect consumers during the tourist peak.
