In late July 2026 the Italian Coast Guard began a visible crackdown on the illegal reservation of free‑beach spots along the Ligurian coast, removing unattended umbrellas, towels and sun‑beds and issuing fines of up to €200. The operation at Riva Trigoso highlighted the agency’s effort to protect public access as private beach clubs expand.

Two days later, in early August, the same service intensified maritime patrols off Crotone. Inspectors checked dozens of pleasure vessels and jet skis, issuing 21 administrative violations for breaches such as entering swimming zones and lacking required documentation, with total fines exceeding €6,000. A concurrent food‑safety sweep seized 82 kg of fish lacking traceability documents from six restaurants, imposing additional penalties. These actions illustrate the Coast Guard’s broader summer‑season enforcement, targeting both shoreline misuse and maritime safety/consumer protection.
