Italian authorities seize illegal beach gear, target undeclared workers
During the summer 2026, Italian law‑enforcement agencies carried out a series of coastal operations. The Guardia Costiera removed illegal beach equipment from public seashores in several regions: about 6,000 m² of demanio were cleared between Pellaro and Bocale in Calabria, roughly 500 umbrellas, deck‑chairs and similar items were seized on Levagnole beach in Campania, seven unauthorized moorings were confiscated in Praia a Mare (Fiuzzi), over 100 items (84 umbrellas, 27 deck‑chairs, etc.) were taken from the Sampieri‑Cava d’Aliga‑Micenci stretch near Scicli, and around 50 pieces were removed from the Bosa coast in Sardinia. These actions restored thousands of square metres of free beach for public use.
In parallel, the Guardia di Finanza intensified economic controls on the Tirreno Cosentino coast. Between late June and July it identified 28 individuals working without contracts, proposed four suspensions of businesses, recorded 181 irregularities in receipt certification and seized about 1,000 non‑conforming products. Additional checks in Scilla led to sanctions on two beach establishments for illegal occupation of a 5‑metre strip and the absence of a lifeguard, each fined over €1,000. The coordinated campaigns aim to protect public resources, ensure fair competition and safeguard workers' rights.
