Italian coastal towns hold World Drowning Prevention Day drills

On World Drowning Prevention Day, Marina di Ragusa on Sicily’s southern coast organized a public sea‑rescue demonstration on Saturday, July 25. The event, coordinated by the municipal civil‑protection and sea‑rescue service with support from a jet‑ski and the Vectis Aps lifeguard cooperative, showcased rescue techniques, equipment and coordination between lifeguards.

In Riccione on the Adriatic coast, authorities scheduled a morning of practical simulations for residents and tourists. The program includes live demonstrations of rescue swimming, use of a rescue board and jet‑ski, a canine‑search unit, and a defibrillator, presented by local officials and the Italian rescue‑dog school.

Both events aim to raise awareness of water‑safety practices among locals and visitors, emphasizing rapid response and preventive education in line with World Health Organization guidelines.
