Italian coastal towns roll out summer 2026 beach clean‑up and safety programmes

The Province of Caserta has relaunched its “Spazzamare” service for the 2026 summer, deploying two Ecoboat 750 vessels to patrol roughly 40 km of coastline around Sessa Aurunca, Cellole, Mondragone and Castel Volturno. The boats, equipped with drones and a remote‑operated submersible, collect floating and submerged waste to protect marine ecosystems and improve beach conditions for locals and tourists.

In the same season, the municipality of Messina inaugurated an upgraded urban beach at the Ringo, featuring accessible facilities and modern amenities as part of a broader waterfront revitalisation.

Rimini’s southern coastline has introduced a new “Beach Service” using eco‑bikes to assist visitors with information, safety and first‑aid support. A complementary rescue initiative equips additional beach operators with electric bicycles, defibrillators and first‑aid training to speed emergency response.

Law‑enforcement actions in Caserta also targeted illegal waste dumping after a contractor was caught abandoning asbestos‑laden debris on a public road in Orta di Atella. The offender’s driver’s licence was revoked and he was charged with environmental crime.

Separately, the CESRAM research centre launched the “Blue Rescue” project in the Ionian Sea, conducting waste‑removal dives and marine monitoring to protect the Stalettì seabed and Baia di Soverato, funded by the EU’s FESR programme.
