Italian communities donate medical furniture and a “Bell of Hope” to pediatric oncology units

In Palermo, the D’Arrigo family and local residents raised funds after the death of health‑worker Giuseppe D’Arrigo. On 25 October 2024, they donated five specially designed bedside cabinets to the paediatric haematology‑oncology department of the Civico Hospital, honoring his memory and aiming to improve comfort for children fighting cancer.

In Reggio Calabria, the Rotaract Club Reggio Calabria Sud Parallelo 38, supported by the District Rotaract 2102 and local businesses, presented the “Campana della Speranza” (Bell of Hope) to the oncology unit of the Grande Ospedale Metropolitano. The brass bell, funded by Easter‑egg sales from Dolciaria Monardo and a custom wooden stand, will be rung after each treatment cycle as a symbol of collective resilience and encouragement for patients.

Both initiatives illustrate how regional charities and volunteers are enhancing the care environment for young cancer patients in Italy.
