Italian communities expand access to life-saving defibrillators

Local communities in Italy are expanding access to life-saving medical equipment through various donation initiatives.

In Pontedera, the Associazione formazione idraulici Pisa has donated four new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to enhance public safety. These devices will be placed in high-traffic areas and community hubs, including the local police, PalAcqua, the Filarmonica Volere è Potere, and the Fondazione per la Cultura Pontedera. The donation comes as the association prepares to close its activities due to a lack of generational turnover, opting to distribute its remaining liquidity to charitable causes.

In Chieti, the 'Quarti in Sicurezza' project has installed its 14th defibrillator at the Santissimo Crocifisso parish in Piazzale Marconi. This initiative, driven by local associations including Quarto Madonna delle Grazie and Misericordia di Chieti, was inspired by a fundraising effort to honor the memory of a local resident. Beyond equipment installation, the project has focused on training, with 175 citizens obtaining certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use in collaboration with emergency services.
