Italian community defibrillator and training initiatives
Overview
Local initiatives in Italy are working to increase public safety through the distribution of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and community training programs.
In Savignano Sul Rubicone, the “Poche Mosse e Una Scossa” project is resuming free training courses on AED usage. Since late 2023, the initiative has trained over 2,200 participants and aims to expand its reach into the Rubicone, Cesenate, Rimini, and Ravenna regions. Organizers have also highlighted the need for better maintenance and integration of local AEDs into the 118 emergency network.
Other regional efforts include the donation of four AEDs in Pontedera by the Associazione formazione idraulici Pisa to be placed in high-traffic community hubs. In Chieti, the ‘Quarti in Sicurezza’ project has installed its 14th defibrillator at the Santissimo Crocifisso parish. This project has also focused on education, with 175 citizens receiving certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use.
