Italian communities promote blood and organ donation through local initiatives

In Pordenone, the Afds youth group organized a combined blood‑plasma donation and Open Air Music Park on 6 June 2026. The mobile donation unit, set up outside the local Sme store, collected 28 donations, including eight from first‑time donors, and attracted additional participants through a free‑entry music event in Parco Galvani.

In another Italian municipality, councilor Vito Cantatore submitted a proposal to establish an annual “Day of Remembrance and Awareness for Organ Donation” on 10 April. The motion cites the recent donation by local resident Vito Cascione and calls for public information campaigns, school events, and the illumination of the city monument in red to raise awareness of organ donation.

Both initiatives aim to increase public knowledge and participation in donation programs, highlighting the role of local authorities and volunteer groups in fostering a culture of giving.
