Italian community walking programmes foster health and heritage for locals

In Campania, three associations – Sissy Continua a Sorridere ODV, DiversaMente ODV and Si Teverola ODV – have launched the "Cammina con Noi" project, offering free guided walks for children aged 8 to 16 from economically fragile families. The inaugural outing includes visits to the Catacombs of San Gennaro, the Royal Forest of Capodimonte and a Eucharistic celebration at the Sanctuary of the Holy Face, aiming to combine cultural education with social inclusion.

Meanwhile, in Formigine, Modena, the "Gruppi di cammino" initiative has begun weekly collective walks coordinated by Giorgia Mazzoli and supported by the Sports Medicine Service of the Modena Health Authority. The free sessions, held each Tuesday in local parks, encourage participants to walk at a sustained pace for at least thirty minutes a day, five days a week, in line with World Health Organization recommendations for cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Both programmes illustrate local efforts across Italy to promote physical activity, community bonding and cultural awareness through accessible, organized walking activities.
