Italian court sentences three for 2025 shoe factory arson; Sardinian villages report repeat fires

A court in Ravenna handed down three‑year‑plus prison terms to Khadija El Rhafil, Pasquale Panariello and Luigi Cinque for deliberately setting fire to the Calzaturificio Emanuela in Bagnacavallo on the night of 7‑8 December 2025. The blaze destroyed a production hall, raw materials and caused roughly €500 000 in damages to the company and its owner, Emanuela Bacchilega. The sentencing also ordered compensation for the victims.

In the Sardinian town of Sinnai, residents of the Pinna Spada‑Putzu household reported three separate arson incidents between early June and early July 2026, each igniting between 13:00 and 14:00 and damaging shrubland, a reedbed and, on one occasion, entering the garden. Firefighters, civil protection units and local forest services intervened each time. Authorities are investigating the cause, noting the repeated timing and location raise suspicions of deliberate ignition.
