Italian courts suspend hunting for specific bird species

Administrative courts in Italy have issued rulings to suspend hunting activities for certain bird species following appeals from animal rights associations.

In Piedmont, the TAR (Regional Administrative Court) has urgently suspended the hunting of grey partridge and red-legged partridge. This decision follows the approval of harvest plans and remains in effect until a council meeting scheduled for November 4. This marks the third precautionary intervention by the court regarding the Piedmont hunting calendar this year.

In Tuscany, the TAR has also suspended a regional resolution that authorized the hunting of starlings by derogation. The court ruled that the regional government deviated from ISPRA (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) guidelines without sufficient motivation. The suspension aims to prevent irreparable damage to the protected species and will remain in place until a merit hearing on December 15.
