In Sicily, the Sicilian Regional Forestry Corps conducted operation ‘Coturnix4’ in Noto and Pachino, seizing electronic devices used to illegally attract quail at night. In San Vito Lo Capo, Carabinieri Forestali and CITES specialists intercepted two men using trap nets and live bird decoys to capture goldfinches. Dozens of rescued birds were released back into their habitat following the confiscation of illegal equipment.

These developments follow earlier regulatory disputes in Lombardy, Liguria, and Sardinia, as well as concerns raised by the League for the Protection of Birds (Lipu) regarding the impact of deregulation on protected species.
