Italian crime investigations: Vannini case and Ranucci attack details

The Italian television network Nove is broadcasting a special report on the Marco Vannini case. The investigation reconstructs the death of the 20-year-old from Ladispoli, who died from a gunshot wound in Civitavecchia. While initially presented as an accident, the case led to the 2021 conviction of Antonio Ciontoli and other family members for manslaughter.

Separately, new details have emerged regarding the October 2025 attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci. Alleged perpetrators Pellegrino D'Avino and Antonio Passariello claim the motive was a staged demonstration intended to boost Ranucci’s political profile. According to the investigation, the mastermind Valter Lavitola allegedly planned to use the incident to facilitate Ranucci’s transition into high-level politics.
