Italian Cultural Institute opens Caravaggio exhibition in New York

The Italian Cultural Institute of New York has inaugurated two major exhibitions to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic. The event features the painting 'Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy' by Caravaggio, which is being exhibited in the United States for the first time.

The second exhibition, titled '1946: The Birth of the Republic', focuses on fundamental moments of Italian identity. The Caravaggio piece was originally in Berlin and was intended for an exhibition in Guadalajara, Mexico, before an opportunity arose to include a stop in Manhattan.

Officials including the Institute's director Claudio Pagliara, Consul General Giuseppe Pastorelli, and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Giorgio Mulè attended the opening. The exhibitions are presented as tools of cultural diplomacy, highlighting Italy's contemporary identity through art and history.
