Italian cycling team presents 2026 World Championship squad in Matera

The Italian national cycling team has officially presented its squad for the 2026 Road Cycling World Championships in Montreal, Canada. The presentation took place in Matera, Italy, marking the first time such an event has been held in Southern Italy.

Key members of the Italian roster include two-time time trial world champion Filippo Ganna, Elisa Longo Borghini, and rising talent Lorenzo Mark Finn. The expanded squad consists of 47 athletes, from which starters for specific events like the individual time trial and road race will be selected. The team includes prominent names such as Alberto Bettiol, Matteo Trentin, and Diego Ulissi.

The event in Matera also facilitated the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) and APT Basilicata. This agreement aims to promote cycling tourism and highlight the natural and cultural heritage of the Basilicata region through sustainable mobility.

In Belgian news, national coach Serge Pauwels announced his selection for the World Championships. While the squad features stars like Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert, Tim Wellens has declined participation due to workload management and commitments to his professional team.
