Italian Cycling Federation put under commissioner oversight

The Federal Council of the Italian Cycling Federation met on 20 July 2026 and ordered the commission of the Professional Cycling League after repeated and serious violations of federation rules and a convention signed on 13 August 2024. The council appointed General Mauro Capone, a 63‑year‑old reserve brigadier‑general of the Carabinieri and civil engineer, as extraordinary commissioner. Capone, who has more than three decades of public‑administration experience, will meet league members at the end of the month to oversee compliance and reforms.

Capone’s background includes senior roles in the State Forestry Corps and the Carabinieri, leadership in the Forest Sports Group, and representation of Italy at multiple Olympic Games. The decision aims to restore governance standards within professional cycling in Italy.
