Italian Cycling League placed under government administration
The Lega del Ciclismo Professionistico (Italian Professional Cycling League) was placed under commissariamento on 20 July 2026 after the federation accused it of repeated and serious violations of federation rules. The dispute stemmed from the league’s handling of television rights for women’s races, which had been transferred to Rai in 2023 without a formal statute. The Federazione Ciclistica Italiana suspended the agreement in June and sent consultants to audit the league’s accounts. When the league failed to respond to a summons on 15 July, a government-appointed commissioner, Carabinieri General Mauro Capone, took over the league’s management. Former league president Roberto Pella, a Forza Italia deputy, had previously overseen the organization during a prior period of commissariamento.
The intervention aims to restore compliance with federation regulations and resolve the ongoing conflict over broadcasting rights and financial governance within Italian professional cycling.
