Italian eye‑care programmes boost services with new retinographers and free mosque screenings
The Carifermo Foundation donated five retinographers to the AST health service in Fermo, Italy, to enhance diabetic eye‑screening and to equip community health centers. Two additional ophthalmologists have been recruited, and the region plans to increase cataract surgeries while tightening criteria for urgent eye‑care visits, especially those linked to driver‑license renewals.
In Catania, the Ammyra studio and the Myra Foundation have launched a free visual‑screening project at the city’s largest mosque. Volunteers conduct visual‑acuity tests and intra‑ocular pressure checks, targeting vulnerable residents. Imam Kheit Abdelhafid stressed that “health, solidarity and dialogue can walk together,” and the initiative will later move to other Sicilian towns.
