Italian families' wealth reaches record €6.5 trillion in 2025
In 2025 the financial wealth of Italian households reached a record 6.5 trillion euros, according to the Fabi report released by the autonomous federation of Italian bankers. This marks an increase of about 446 billion euros over the previous year and roughly 1.6 trillion euros since 2020, a rise of around 35%.
The surge stems mainly from the revaluation of existing assets rather than new savings. The value of stocks held by families rose from 974 billion to 2,077 billion euros (+113%), government bonds from 248 billion to 524 billion euros (+111%), and mutual funds from 689 billion to 902 billion euros (+31%). Cash deposits grew only modestly, to 1,603 billion euros, a 3% rise.
The gains are highly concentrated. The richest 5% of families now own 49.4% of the national wealth and captured about 91% of the increase, while the poorest half benefited from only 2.7% of the rise. Real wages remain about 7% below 2021 levels, and poverty risk is high in the south (38.4% of residents).
