Italy confronts multiple forest fires across regions in June 2026

A series of forest fires erupted across Italy in June 2026. In Civitella di Romagna (Emilia‑Romagna) fire crews battled flames that destroyed about 2,500 sq m of vegetation and secured the area after extensive ground and aerial work.

In Sardinia, the Nuraminis blaze scorched roughly 1,000 ha, threatening the local elderly residence and prompting a security cordon around the home for more than 30 residents. The fire also endangered nearby farms and livestock.

In Umbria, the Gualdo Cattaneo wildfire forced the temporary evacuation of several villas as fire units, including helicopter support from Arezzo, fought to contain the blaze threatening residential zones.

In the Trapani area of Sicily, the Montagna Grande fire has burned for three days, affecting hundreds of hectares of Mediterranean woodland and prompting suspicion of arson after investigators identified multiple ignition points. Aerial assets—Canadair planes and several forest‑service helicopters—continued water drops while ground crews protected farms, tourist facilities and wildlife habitats.

In Calabria, a vegetation fire near State Road 106 forced the closure of the road in both directions, halting traffic while firefighters worked to contain the flames. Across all incidents, Italy deployed dozens of fire engines, helicopters, Canadair aircraft and volunteer personnel to protect lives, property and the environment.
