Italian government navigates electoral law and election timing

The Meloni government is navigating internal dynamics and legislative priorities as it approaches key milestones. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is reportedly seeking a swift approval process, with the goal of having the law finalized by early October. There are indications that Meloni may favor an election date around April 11 to coincide with administrative elections in major cities.

However, internal coalition tensions persist. Matteo Salvini is reportedly pushing for the natural end of the legislature in autumn 2027 rather than an early spring vote. Francesco Filini, program manager for Fratelli d’Italia, defended the government's performance, noting that the administration has exceeded initial negative forecasts regarding economic stability and international standing. Filini highlighted achievements such as job growth and reduced irregular migration as key points for upcoming political celebrations.
