Italian towns and health agencies launch free screening programs

In June 2026 a series of free preventive‑health events were organised across Italy by local authorities, regional health agencies (ASL) and charities such as the Italian Red Cross. The initiatives covered a wide range of screenings – prostate cancer checks in Positano on 22 June, breast, cervical and colon‑cancer tests in Naples’ Capodimonte park, cardiovascular and diabetes checks in Perugia and Assisi, and hearing‑acuity exams in Pisa, San Giuliano Terme and Rome’s Anzio‑Nettuno site.

Mobile health trucks from ASL Latina visited Bassiano, Fondi and other towns, offering blood‑pressure, cholesterol, BMI, mammography, HPV/PAP tests and lifestyle counselling. Similar mobile units operated in the Lazio and Campania regions, while community‑based walks and workshops in Lecce and Novara promoted physical activity as a cancer‑prevention tool. All events required only a simple booking and were open to all residents, aiming to lower barriers to early diagnosis and encourage healthier lifestyles.

The coordinated effort reflects a broader push by Italian public‑health services to bring preventive care directly to citizens, especially in underserved areas, and underscores the role of local partnerships in expanding access to crucial health checks.
