Italy launches summer eye and cancer screening campaigns in Messina and Avellino
In Messina, the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted, in partnership with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, is running a free eye‑health screening campaign from 13 to 21 July 2024. The program offers ophthalmic examinations by specialists and promotes basic protective measures such as certified sunglasses, hydration, and the use of certified eclipse‑viewing glasses.
In the province of Avellino, the local health authority (ASL Avellino) is operating a mobile “Summer Camp(er)” on 11 July 2024. The initiative provides free mammography for women aged 50‑69, Pap/HPV testing for cervical cancer, stool‑blood kits for colorectal screening, rapid testing for hepatitis C, and an information desk on organ donation, bringing preventive services directly to residents in the town of Scampitella.
