Italian health facility relocations in Modica and Milazzo face local criticism

In Modica, the transfer of the municipal medical guard to the new Casa di Comunità on piazzale Baden Powell has been condemned by the Five Star Movement and local activists. They report that the site remains an open construction zone, lacks clear signage, contact information and visible operating hours, and was closed during a doctor’s home‑visit, leaving patients without assistance.

In Milazzo, an urgent parliamentary question was submitted to the Sicilian regional president and health minister over a proposal to move the hospital pharmacy of the Giuseppe Fogliani Presidio to ground‑floor rooms near the chapel. Critics warn that the new premises may be too small, lack safety features such as window grates and alarm systems, and expose medicines to theft or mishandling, jeopardising service continuity and staff safety. Regional officials have been asked for clarification and risk assessments.
