Italian health professionals and PhDs achieve record employment rates

A recent AlmaLaurea report shows that 87.9% of graduates in health‑related fields are employed within a year, with technical, rehabilitation and prevention sectors reaching 84.9%, 88.5% and 77.9% respectively. President of the national orders Diego Catania said the data demonstrate the solid and immediate labour market value of these professions, adding that satisfaction with the jobs scores an average of 8 out of 10.

At the University of Milan, 95.4% of PhD holders were employed after one year, surpassing the national average of 94.1%. Unemployment among its doctoral graduates stands at 1.9%, and 82.4% rate their doctorate as “effective” or “very effective”. Most work in public research (64.7%) or in private and non‑profit sectors, with a strong presence of STEM and female researchers.

The University of Parma reports an even higher placement rate of 97%, three points above the national figure. The average age at graduation is 31.2 years, and 62.7% obtain their doctorate by age 30. Graduates cite improved scientific training and better career prospects as key motivations, and 68.4% believe their discipline offers more opportunities abroad.
