Italian hospitals host free head and neck cancer screenings
Several Italian medical facilities are participating in the ‘Make Sense Campaign’, a European initiative aimed at the prevention and early diagnosis of head and neck cancers. The campaign, promoted in Italy by the Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Cervico-Cefalica (AIOCC), emphasizes the ‘1 for 3’ rule: seeking medical attention if a single symptom persists for three weeks.
In Bari, the Policlinico is offering free screenings from September 21 to 25. These visits are intended for individuals experiencing symptoms such as persistent sore throat, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or unusual lesions and spots in the mouth. Appointments at the Policlinico must be requested via email.
In Empoli, the San Giuseppe Hospital is also participating from September 21 to 26. The hospital will provide 30 clinical evaluations divided between otorhinolaryngology and oncology. These sessions target patients with specific clinical indicators, such as dysphonia lasting over two weeks, neck swelling, or new oral growths, as well as individuals with known risk factors seeking preventative information.
