Italian Hospitals Host Migraine Awareness Open Days in Empoli and Brescia
The (H)Open Day migraine awareness initiative, promoted by Fondazione Onda ETS, took place at two Italian hospitals in June. On 18 June, San Giuseppe Hospital in Empoli hosted a day‑long event where neurologists from the Centre for Headache provided information, answered questions and explained diagnostic and therapeutic pathways for migraine sufferers, a condition that affects more than 6 million Italians, predominantly women. A week later, on 25 June, the ASST Spedali Civili in Brescia offered free group consultations for female patients, aiming to improve early symptom recognition and timely access to care. Both events sought to raise public awareness of migraine as a chronic, disabling neurological disorder and to encourage patients to seek specialist treatment.
The campaigns underline the high prevalence of migraine in Italy—estimated at 14 % of the adult population, with women accounting for about 70 % of cases—and the need for better diagnosis and management.
