Italian hospitals report record birth surges
Two Italian hospitals have reported significant surges in births over short periods. At the Sant’Anna hospital in Como, 16 children were born within a 24-hour window between October 7 and 8. The surge, which included two sets of twins, far exceeded the facility's daily average of five to six births. To manage the influx, medical staff temporarily repurposed operating rooms to ensure continuous assistance.
Separately, the Apuane hospital in Massa recorded seven births in just twelve hours between the evening of October 12 and the morning of October 13. All seven births were spontaneous. Hospital officials noted that the intense period required coordinated teamwork among gynecologists, pediatricians, midwives, and nurses to maintain safety and care standards.
