Birth surges in Italian hospitals
Overview
Multiple Italian hospitals have reported significant surges in births occurring over very short timeframes.
In the province of Padua, the Cittadella hospital recorded twelve births within a forty-hour period between October 7 and October 8. The ULSS 6 Euganea health authority credited the coordinated efforts of the Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics departments for managing the event.
Other facilities reported similar spikes. The Sant’Anna hospital in Como saw sixteen children born within a twenty-four-hour window between October 7 and 8, including two sets of twins. This volume exceeded the facility’s daily average, requiring staff to temporarily repurpose operating rooms. Additionally, the Apuane hospital in Massa recorded seven spontaneous births in a twelve-hour period between the evening of October 12 and the morning of October 13.
