Italian households' wealth hits record €6.5 trillion

The latest report from the Federazione Autonoma Bancari Italiani (FABI) shows that the financial wealth of Italian families reached nearly €6.5 trillion in 2025, a rise of more than €1.6 trillion (about 35%) since 2020. The increase stems mainly from a shift toward higher‑yielding assets: equities now represent about 32% of total household assets, valued at roughly €2.1 trillion – up 113% from 2020 – while bonds and government securities have grown by about 111% to €523 billion. Funds, insurance policies and other instruments also expanded, reaching €900 billion and €1.17 trillion respectively. Liquid deposits remain a core component, totaling around €1.6 trillion but growing only modestly (about 3%). Lando Maria Sileoni, FABI’s secretary‑general, said the families “are the pillar of economic stability” and highlighted the need for banks to provide professional advice as private wealth becomes more diversified and larger. The report underscores the role of household savings as a stabilising force for the Italian economy and points to a continuing trend of greater diversification across asset classes.
