Journalist Adriano Cappellari charged with fraud for faking bomb attack

On 30 May 2026 an incendiary device exploded in front of journalist Adriano Cappellari’s home in Enego, Vicenza. The device was made from gas canisters, alcohol bottles, flammable liquids and pyrotechnic material. Surveillance footage captured a masked individual whose height matched Cappellari’s.

Investigators traced purchases of the gas canisters and alcohol to Cappellari through an e‑commerce platform using his credit‑card details and phone number. The prosecutor now accuses him of arson, calumny, continued simulation of a crime, false alarm and fraud against the state.

Cappellari had previously reported anonymous death‑threat letters addressed to himself, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and priest Maurizio Patriciello, which led to police protection and public solidarity. The new indictment alleges he fabricated the threats and the bomb attack himself.
