Italian Labour Minister Calderone to Lead Caporalato Summit in Calabria

On 5 June, Italy’s Labour and Social Policies Minister Marina Calderone will chair a summit in Reggio Calabria aimed at strengthening the fight against caporalato and the exploitation of agricultural workers, following the deadly Amendolara braccianti massacre. The meeting will bring together regional government officials, law‑enforcement commanders, and senior executives from national labour inspection bodies, including the heads of the Carabinieri labour‑protection command, the prefectures of Reggio Calabria and Cosenza, and directors of the National Labour Inspectorate and the regional labour‑inspection office.

Participants will discuss coordinated prevention measures, enhanced monitoring, and possible new regulatory provisions in cooperation with the Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida. The summit is intended to improve inter‑agency cooperation and propose legislative updates to better protect farm workers and deter illegal labour practices.
