Italian leaders debate EU reform at Cernobbio forum

During the Teha Forum in Cernobbio, Italian President Sergio Mattarella addressed the complexities of the current historical transition. He noted that while the existing international equilibrium is no longer current, there is a lack of commitment to constructing a new one, leading to a questioning of the values upon which national societies are built.

Mattarella emphasized the need to safeguard an international order that respects the dignity of people and nations. He called for a rapid examination of reforms to adapt international structures to contemporary realities, suggesting that the European integration process must also evolve. He defended the European Union as a vital manifestation of shared sovereignty and common values that ensures peace and prosperity.

In a separate intervention at the same forum, Roberto Vannacci, leader of Futuro Nazionale, questioned the inertia regarding the structural architecture of the European Union. He cited examples such as the United Kingdom's departure, Iceland's rejection of full integration, and the positions of Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey to suggest that not all nations seek integration into the EU.
