Italian local authorities raise taxes and fees amid national regulations

The Italian Senate has accepted a legislative item that urges the government to lower system charges on electricity bills for regions with a high concentration of renewable energy installations. The move follows a long‑standing campaign by citizen groups such as the No Wild FER committee in Montalto di Castro, and it was supported by local officials including Bolsena mayor Andrea Di Sorte (Forza Italia).

In Desenzano del Garda, the municipal council is set to approve a new waste‑collection tax (TARI) that will increase rates by 11% in line with the formulas prescribed by the national regulator ARERA. The increase is estimated at about €1.80 per month for a four‑person household, while the town maintains all existing services. Councilor Cristina Degasperi said the increase “does not derive from a municipal choice but from mandatory ARERA parameters, and we have limited the impact on families while preserving service quality.”
