Italian manufacturing faces job cuts at Electrolux and Ficomirrors

Industrial tensions are rising in Italy as two major manufacturing sites face significant workforce reductions and production shifts.

At the Electrolux plant in Porcia, the company has withdrawn its plan for unilateral layoffs, opting instead for a management strategy involving 412 incentivized voluntary departures. This figure is part of a larger plan involving 1,250 exits across Italy over the next three years. Labor unions, including Fim, Fiom, and Uilm, are demanding guarantees regarding the voluntary nature of these exits and seeking to secure the future of washer-dryer production at the site. Electrolux has announced 90 million euros in investments for its Italian facilities.

In Morcone, the Ficomirrors plant is facing a crisis following the decision to transfer mirror production for the Fiat Ducato to Poland starting in late 2029. This move threatens hundreds of direct and indirect jobs. Local political representatives have called for government intervention, and the Undersecretary of State for Labor, Claudio Durigon, has expressed availability to meet with unions to discuss potential solutions to protect local employment and production continuity.
