Italian mayors condemn vandalism and rally residents after attacks on public artwork

Mayor Benedetto Murro of Pignataro Interamna posted a sarcastic social‑media message denouncing recent night‑time vandalism that damaged the local school, a public pool, a bridge railing and a sports‑field basket. He warned that any further incidents will result in immediate involvement of the Carabinieri, stating “La prossima volta chiamata a carabinieri”.

In Nichelino, the municipal administration responded to the defacement of a Gaza‑themed mural by organizing a public presence. Deputy Mayor Fiodor Verzola urged residents not to be intimidated, saying “Non ci fate paura”. The artist, Mr. Fijodor, promptly restored the artwork, and officials highlighted the event as a sign of social cohesion and the community’s commitment to defend freedom of expression.
