Italian Mayors Declare Municipal Mourning for Local Tragedy Funerals

The mayor of Messina, Federico Basile, proclaimed a day of municipal mourning for the funeral of 17‑year‑old Alessandra Frazzica, the youngest victim of a building collapse in the Pistunina district on 30 July 2026. The city will observe a minute of silence at 16:30, fly flags at half‑mast and suspend public events during the ceremony at the Messina Cathedral.

In Massa, mayor Francesco Persiani also declared municipal mourning for the funerals of Graziella Baldini and Paolo Cosci, who died in a serious road accident near Terni on 2 August 2026. Flags will be displayed at half‑mast on the municipal palace and other public buildings, and a minute of silence will be observed at 16:30 during the service at the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Quercioli.
