Municipal mourning declarations in Italy
Overview
Various Italian municipalities have declared periods of municipal mourning following local fatalities caused by accidents and sudden deaths.
In Messina, Mayor Federico Basile ordered mourning for the funeral of 17-year-old Alessandra Frazzica, a victim of a building collapse. In Massa, Mayor Francesco Persiani declared mourning for Graziella Baldini and Paolo Cosci, who died in a road accident near Terni. Both cities planned to observe minutes of silence and fly flags at half-mast.
In Orsara di Puglia, Mayor Mario Simonelli issued an ordinance for municipal mourning following the deaths of Donato Terlizzi and Pasquale Maffia, the latter involving a tractor accident. The ordinance included the cancellation of scheduled events and the suspension of food and beverage services during funeral services at the Chiesa Madre.
