Italian mayors rally for reopening of Scafati and Agropoli hospital emergency departments

Citizens in Scafati organized a march calling for the reopening of the emergency department at the Mauro Scarlato Hospital. Representatives of Fratelli d’Italia joined the protest, with coordinator Mario Santocchio stating the city needs “clear commitments, definite timelines and concrete actions” after prolonged delays that affect more than 50 000 residents.

Mayors of the District 70 health area, including those from Agropoli, released a joint statement supporting the reopening and strengthening of their local hospital. They rejected accusations of obstruction, emphasized responsibility to guarantee health services, and proposed creating a new “Azienda Ospedaliera del Parco” together with the University of Salerno’s medical school to train interns and improve care for residents and tourists.

Both actions highlight a unified regional push for better hospital capacity, urging regional authorities to prioritize emergency care and avoid political division.
