Italian military remains repatriated from Germany after decades
The remains of two Italian soldiers who died in Germany during World War II have been repatriated to Italy after more than 80 years.
In Mondolfo, Sergeant Gino Signoracci, who died in May 1945 at the Groß Fullen Nazi prisoner-of-war camp, was returned to his hometown. The repatriation was coordinated by the Ministry of Defense and follows a long search conducted by his family. He was laid to rest in the municipal cemetery alongside his parents and wife.
Similarly, Corporal Major Angelo Mariuccini, who died in November 1944 in a German concentration camp after refusing to fight alongside German forces, was repatriated to the Perugia region. His remains were transferred from the Italian Military Cemetery of Honor in Hamburg through mediation by the Office for the Protection of Defense Culture and Memory (UTCMD) and German authorities. He was received by military officials in Mantignana before being handed over to his family.
