Italian mountain rescue teams assist injured hikers in two separate incidents

On July 4, a 39‑year‑old woman from Taranto suffered severe abdominal pain while hiking on the Pollino massif. The Basilicata Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service, coordinated with the 112 emergency number and the 118 medical service, located her via the Georesq app, reached her on foot after a 4×4 vehicle brought rescuers to the trail, and evacuated her on a stretcher to Acquatremola, where she was handed over to hospital staff.

Later the same day, a 48‑year‑old hiker from Chioggia cut her knee in the high Val Travenanzes. She was rescued by a helicopter from the Suem service of Pieve di Cadore and air‑lifted to the hospital in Cortina. In a separate call, a 77‑year‑old woman from Sedico fell near the Malghe Duran area. The Agordo Alpine rescue team immobilised her wrist, treated facial cuts and escorted her to the Agordo hospital.

All three rescues were completed without fatalities, illustrating the coordinated effort of Italy’s mountain emergency services.
