Italian mountain rescuers aid injured hiker on Monte Cucco and newborn foal on Monte Catria

On a Sunday morning, a woman slipped on the trail of Monte Cucco in the Umbrian regional park, sustaining a lower‑limb injury that prevented her from continuing. Two teams from the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Umbri, dispatched from Sigillo and Perugia, stabilized and immobilised the patient, carried her on a stretcher along the trail to the Fonte dell’Acqua Fredda site, and transferred her by off‑road vehicle to a 118 ambulance. She was then taken to the hospital in Branca for further treatment.

Later that day on Monte Catria in the Marche region, Carabinieri Forestali responded to a call about a newborn foal apparently lifeless on a provincial road. Upon arrival they discovered the foal was alive but in severe distress from heat. The soldiers protected the animal in shade, re‑hydrated it with water supplied by passing tourists, and kept it under the watchful eye of its mother. Using a microchip reader they identified the adult horse’s owner, and after a local farmer arrived the foal was transferred to a stable for veterinary care.
