Italy sees wave of accidents and rescue operations across mountains and cities

On 28 June 2026 Italian mountain rescue teams were called to several incidents. In the Asiago plateau, Alpine Rescue aided a 67‑year‑old woman who fell near Malga Mandrielle and later rescued a father and son who lost orientation while mountain‑biking near Gallio. In the Presolana area, 74‑year‑old Angelo Natali was found dead after a likely 50‑metre slip into the Canale Bendotti. Five hikers and two small dogs were retrieved safely near the Rifugio Rosalba on the Resinelli peaks after a land‑search and helicopter extraction. A 59‑year‑old man suffered a sudden medical emergency at Passo dello Stelvio and was air‑lifted by an EC145 helicopter to hospital. An exhausted 63‑year‑old hiker was located and assisted by the National Alpine Rescue Service on the Matese mountains.

In Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, three separate missions occurred: a knee injury on the Montasio ridge, a fatal cardiac arrest in Pontebba, and a rescued female hiker with an ankle injury on Monte Coglians, all involving dual‑helicopter deployments. The Umbria Alpine & Speleological Service (SASU) treated an injured female hiker and a second mountain‑user suffering a malore on Monte Cucco, both requiring helicopter evacuation.

Separate urban incidents also drew emergency response. A 50‑year‑old man died after falling from a balcony in Senigallia’s Via Feltrini, while noted lawyer Silvio Bolloli (53) suffered a cardiac arrest and later died in a private pool rescue in Alessandria. Both cases prompted 118 ambulance and police involvement.
