Italian MP calls for release of detained Gaza doctor Hussam Abu Safiya

Stefania Ascari, a deputy for the Five Star Movement, held a press conference at the Italian Chamber of Deputies to demand the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya. The doctor, who treated children at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, has been incarcerated by Israel since December 27, 2024, without formal charges or a trial.

During the event, which included the doctor's son, Elyas, Ascari criticized the treatment of the physician, stating he is being treated like a terrorist despite his humanitarian work. She called for the release of Abu Safiya and all Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, while advocating for sanctions against the Israeli government.
