Italian MP Dario Carotenuto says government morally responsible for Ranucci attack

Deputy Dario Carotenuto of the Five Star Movement, a former member of the parliamentary commission overseeing RAI, reiterated his earlier statement that the Italian government acted as a "moral mandante" in the bombing that injured journalist Sigfrido Ranucci. He stressed that he never claimed the government placed the bomb or that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ordered the attack, saying his comment referred to the “climate of tension and delegitimisation” created by constant right‑wing attacks on Ranucci and his TV programme.

Carotenuto also mentioned that the name of Fratelli d'Italia deputy Gimmi Cangiano was brought up in a conversation with Ranucci, but he explicitly doubted any direct involvement by Cangiano in the incident. The MP said the hostile environment could inspire a disturbed individual to commit such an act.
