Italian Municipalities Adopt New Urban Green Space Guidelines

The municipal council has released a comprehensive report outlining new "Guidelines for the Quality of Interventions in Urban Green Areas". The document aligns existing tools such as the Operational Plan, heat‑island map, urban atlas and green plan, and sets standards for both public and private projects, emphasizing vegetation, water, urban‑wildlife coexistence, services, social aggregation and societal well‑being. A pilot project is planned for the Raffaello Sernesi green area, with participation from local stakeholders.

In Grottaferrata, the municipal administration clarified its tree‑cutting procedures, stating that removal occurs only after technical assessments confirm an immediate safety risk. For the current year, 24 trees will be felled and 150 new trees are scheduled for planting between November 2026 and January 2027, continuing a three‑year record of planting 540 trees after 170 removals. The commune stresses transparency and public safety in managing vertical green spaces.
