Italian municipalities and health groups launch campaigns to boost organ and blood donation

The municipality of Montelabbate in Italy has signed a protocol with the local volunteer association AIDO “Anna Morelli” to provide information on organ and tissue donation to citizens applying for or renewing their electronic identity cards. The initiative aims to raise public awareness, support informed choices and promote a culture of solidarity, with gratitude expressed to President Anna Ucchielli for her leadership.

On 20 June, the Regional Blood Donation Day “Le donne lo sanno” was held at the Auditorium of Santa Apollonia in Florence. Organized by the Tuscany Region in partnership with Cesvot, the event highlighted women’s role in blood and plasma donation and introduced the FIDAS national campaign “Il rosa dona”. Speakers from the Ministry of Health, the National Blood Centre, regional authorities, hospitals and volunteer associations discussed gender‑specific medicine, informed consent and strategies to increase female participation in donation.

Both initiatives reflect a coordinated effort across Italian local authorities and health organisations to strengthen donation culture and encourage citizen involvement.
