Italian municipalities boost blood and organ donations with public events
On 15 June 2026, the mayor of Ceva attended a 24‑hour plasma‑collection marathon at the Mondovì transfusion centre, thanking volunteers and urging healthy residents to become donors. The ceremony highlighted the local AVIS chapter’s role in maintaining the regional blood‑supply network.
A week later, Livorno hosted the 32nd "Sara Mazzi" football tournament, involving more than 100 children from local schools. The event commemorates Sara Mazzi, Livorno’s first child organ donor, and channels proceeds to AVIS Livorno. Organisers, including the city mayor and AVIS president, used the tournament to promote the culture of blood and organ donation among families.
Both events illustrate how Italian towns are using community activities to raise awareness and strengthen participation in the national donation system.
