Italian municipalities boost identity card services for residents

A resident of Marano praised the town's registry office for courteous and efficient service when renewing a paper identity card, noting that staff offered assistance without being asked despite his mobility difficulties.

The Assisi municipality announced a third open‑day event on 13 June, allowing residents who still hold paper identity cards to obtain electronic identity cards (CIE) without a prior appointment. Up to 70 new electronic cards will be issued, with a fee of €22 for a new card or €27 for a duplicate. The service runs from 8:30 am, and participants must bring a recent photo, the old paper card (or loss report), and another valid ID. The event is staffed by municipal employees, local police and IT personnel.

Both initiatives aim to streamline the transition from paper to electronic identity documents and improve public‑service responsiveness in Italian towns.
